McQueen bike treat
BRILLIANT - I've just learned that good fortune has placed the On Two Wheels stand next to the stand where Si and Dave (aka the Hairy Bikers) will be cooking some of their delicious food on both days of Motorcycle World at Beaulieu this weekend.
A quick check of the schedule has revealed that the Hairy ones will be preparing food at midday and 4pm - so, with any luck, we may be okay for lunch and tea.
But, as they are so popular and friendly we'd better not count on celebrity prepared snacks.
One bike that has just been confirmed as being present at MCW already has my taste buds watering.
MCW visitors will have the first opportunity to see the Rickman Metisse Desert Rat, pictured, originally designed by Steve McQueen.
This iconic machine will be presented to Steve's son, Chad, later this month.
I once heard a tale how the chaps who used to build the frames for the Rickman Metisse - French for mongrel - in New Milton were greeted by a friendly American when they turned up for work one morning.
The visitor was Steve, pictured inset right. He spent the day talking about bikes and, most particularly, frames.
That's how passionate he was about motor sport; he got involved in the nitty and the gritty.
Always popular at shows are the Extreme Globeriders, who perform in a steel mesh globe, pictured foot of page, and the Demon Drome Wall of Death - both displays put on a show of skill and daring that is too good to miss. Major manufacturers attending the show include Honda, BMW, Aprilia, Kawasaki, Ducati, Bransons, Triumph and Yamaha. You'll be able to see (and try for size) their latest models and meet the Race Teams and Riders.
Don't forget that the Ducati Monster Tour will be stopping over at Motorcycle World offering test rides on the new Monster 696 - so remember to bring your driving licence.
As always there will be a vast selection of goodies for bikes and riders on the trade stands, so bring your bungies and luggage if you intend to do some shopping - or, you could just buy that stuff at the show as well.
On the grass and motocross track will be plenty of action with a mixture of vintage and modern machines piloted by young and old riders, all testing themselves to the limit.
JAP and Jawa speedway bikes from the 50s, 60s and 70s, as well as the more modern Godden machines, will be sliding through the corners on the dedicated oval'.
The Trials course will keep spectators entertained with the skill and nerve of the riders as they balance, hop and roll off cars, skips and man-made obstacles.
Steve Saunders, ten times British Champion, and Becky Cooke, current Women's British Champion will be among the riders.
Tickets for MCW (which opens at 10am on Saturday and Sunday) are available in advance (call 01590 612888 or go to beaulieu.co.uk/tickets) for £10.50 adults and £6.25 children on both days while a two-day ticket can be obtained for £21 and £10.50 respectively.
On the gate they will be £12 and £7 for Saturday, £13 and £7.50 for Sunday or two-day tickets for £22 and £11.
