APPRENTICES have been praised for their achievements by Saints legend Lawrie McMenemy.
The former Southampton and England U21 manager handed out awards to the aspiring tradesmen and women who had distinguished themselves during the year.
The awards were handed out at Southampton Engineering Training Association's (Seta) 39th annual prize night held at the company's training centre in Millbrook.
The Stainer Prizes for Apprentice of the Year were awarded to Matthew Seaman of ExxonMobil and to Peter Sleep of PTF Engineering.
Both Matthew, 17, and Peter, 19, will now continue with their qualifications at work.
Also receiving awards for their engineering prowess were Harry Tregunna of Jordan Engineering, Ryan Fenwick and Oliver Johnstone of K Len Construction.

Holly Morgan of Jordan Engineering and Jordan McCourt of Southampton Container Terminals were highly commended.
Amy Chandler, who is about to start work at Fawley Power Station won the coveted Young Apprentice of the Year with Thomas Lee-Snape of W H Rowe being highly commended in the category.
Southampton mayor Brian Parnell and Seta chief executive Richard Heighington, presented the NVQs, City & Guilds and other qualifications the students had been working towards.
