Message in a Bottle from the island - see you next year
Posted by at 11:03pm on Sun 15 Jun 08

Fireworks are currently lighting up the sky above Newport as they draw the Isle of Wight Festival 2008 to a spectacular close.
The display also marked the end of a memorable set from The Police.
They burst on to stage with Message in a Bottle and the hits continued for an hour and a half with everything from Roxanne to Every Breathe You Take.
Sting, looking every bit the rock God dressed all in black, told the crowd hr had hoped to return to the festival ever since seeing Bob Dylan as an impressionable five-year-old in 1969.
55,000 people who descended on the island a few days ago will be sorry to see the end of the three-day annual party in the sun.
But there's always next year...
Sting has arrived!
Posted by at 6:18pm on Sun 15 Jun 08

Sting has arrived and excitement is mounting ahead of a rare gig by The Police.
The crowd have just enjoyed an appearance by another reformed band - James.
Old favourites Born of Frustration proved popular and some lucky members of the crowd were invited to join the band on stage for She's A Star.
Tim Booth looked like he was loving every minute of performing again, but disappointed many with no rendition of Sit Down.
A weekend of sunshine was brought to an abrupt end during their set with a short rain shower.
Revellers are hoping it stays dry for the two show pieces of The Kooks then The Police.
Delays know how to get 55,000 warmed up
Posted by at 5:59pm on Sun 15 Jun 08

Southampton favourites Delays are elated following their fantastic Isle of Wight Festival display.
I've just caught up with Greg, Aaron, Colin and Rowley backstage after they ended a rousing 40 minute performance with their hit Valentine.
"We feel great," front man Greg Gilbert told me.
"It's a difficult slot that early in the day as no one's really got into it but we managed to get everyone warmed up and I think they were really feeling it by the end."
The lads plan to enjoy the rest of the evening here at the festival before heading off to play the Cambridge University graduation ball tomorrow night.
Newton's standing ovation for Queen classic
Posted by at 3:43pm on Sun 15 Jun 08

Singer songwriter Newton Faulkner has received a standing ovation for an incredible cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody at the end of an amazing performance.
The members of James have arrived and are hanging out back stage ahead of their appearance later.
Calendar Girls actress and Island resident Celia Imre is currently enjoying a glass of fizz on the grass while wearing a brightly coloured jacket, a corsage and a red baseball cap.
Local lads Delays' rousing return
Posted by at 1:22pm on Sun 15 Jun 08

LOCAL lads Delays have just proved popular with the early crowd.
The foursome from Bitterne have this minute stepped off the stage after a rousing 40-minute performance.
It is the third time they have been booked for the festival, more than any other act. Their first number Hideaway was met with whoops and cheers. The audience also enjoyed Long Time Coming, Keep it Simple and especially closing number Valentine from Greg, Aaron, Colin and Rowly.
Greg, whose distinct vocals rang around Seaclose Park, suffered from technical difficulties early on. So he led a mass Mexican Wave for the few seconds it took an engineer to restore power to his guitar.
I will be meeting the guys for a chat longer.
Up all night with Scouting for Girls
Posted by at 1:09pm on Sun 15 Jun 08

I've just caught up with three very bleary eyed members of Scouting for Girls.
They stayed up all night, gossiping and drinking with old friends after a warm up gig in Yeovil last night and only managed a quick nap on the tour bus.
But they still promised plenty of fun for the 55,000 strong crowd when they appear at 3.45pm this afternoon.
"We'll try to put on a party and get everyone involved.
"We have a lot of fun with our shows," piano playing front man Roy Stride told me.
The trio are booked on the 4am ferry back to the mainland tonight and plan to party until then.
