Svensson's double delight

Michael Svensson had two reasons to feel happy last night.

Not only did the big Swedish centre half get his wish to be a part of his great friend Claus Lundekvam's farewell but he also made his long awaited return to the St Mary's pitch after four years of injury hell.

Svensson played the entire second half and came through unscathed in the latest leg of his remarkable injury comeback.

And for the final eight minutes of the game he rekindled that famous partnership with Lundekvam that helped Saints reach the FA Cup final in 2003.

He said: "It was emotional because Claus is a good friend of mine and to be back on the pitch after my injury as well.

"I think Claus is a legend at this club and it was a nice way to say goodbye and thank you to Claus.

"It was a great feeling for me to be part of it.

"Claus is a good friend to me and we've had some good times playing two seasons together amongst other things and good results so I'm very happy for him."

The most moving part of the night was the welcome Killer gave Claus. I bet no many people thought they would see the both of them on the same pitch again. Keep it going michael, we need you this season

No friendly game for Svensson. Shouting, guiding, cajoling, **** at the ref when he didn't get free kicks. Superb! Lets hope that he gets through this trial OK and Rupert offers him a sensible deal. If Rupert doesn't I'm sure another club will come in for him. Pure Class. Welcome back Michael.

Now he's back - hopefully for good - we now have at least one player of real class.

Totaly agree, it was brilliant to see killer in red and white again, get him signed up now before someone else offers him a contract! Thought some of the youngsters played very well too particularly Morgan Schniederlin

A better testimonial that I expected. A heavily-subbed Celtic was a good test for our young Saints.

Well travelling down from the Midlands to watch. The attendance could've been better, but circumstances made that inevitable.

great to see Le Tissier back on the pitch again, but I'm gald no one gave him the ball! Oh! It's not good when age creeps up!

Final thought; on my way back to my car I got chatting to a couple of Bhoys and remarked they had a longer journey home than me. Not a bit of it; they came from Romsey!!

I agree with Billy & Matty, I'm sure GS for one will now be interested signing in Killer.

Fantastic news that Michael Svensson is back, when he got injured it was the start of free fall from the Premiership, I'm sure like all Saints fans we hope Svensson can see the season through, he is the bonus that Saints need to help all the young players, the new season is going to be an exciting period
