Young Saints side held by Eastleigh
A young Saints side came back from two goals down but conceded a late equaliser to draw 3-3 with Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium.
With Jan Poortvliet having played his first team against Celtic last night it was the turn of the youngsters against Eastleigh.
It couldn't have started much worse for Saints as they fell behind after just 17 seconds, James Baker allowed time and space to head home.
Eastleigh doubled their lead on 31 minutes when Anthony Riviere lashed home from ten yards out.
Nathan Dyer, in his first pre-season game of the season, made it 2-1 just before half time before Saints came out with a renewed energy after the break.
Jamie White equalised on 63 minutes before Matt Paterson tapped home from six yards out six minutes later to hand Saints the win.
But Eastleigh levelled the scores again with two minutes remaining, Chris Mason capitalising on indecision between Andrej Pernecky and Kyle Davies to make it 3-3.
Teams
Eastleigh: Jason Matthews, Andy Harris, Tom Jordan, Ashley Vickers (Aaron Martin 76), Trevor Challis (Neil Davies 45), Tony Taggart (Jack Sealy 81), Anthony Riviere, Luke Byles (Adam Sheperd 77), Tom Bird (Rocky Baptiste 62), James Baker (Arron Milburn 58), Matt Groves (Chris Mason 62).
Saints: Andrej Pernecky, Jake Thomson, Aarron Racine, Kyle Davies, Joseph Mills (Sam Argent 64), Oscar Gobern, Tom Dunford (Callum McNish 45), Marek Saganowski (Kayne McLagon 45), Nathan Dyer (Ben Reeves 76), Jamie White, Matt Paterson (Tony Garrod 82).
Att: 1,376.

Considering all of our team was the youth team i have to say they done really well and with the experience of the first teamers i reckon we will have a good season.
As for last night we did well as well because we werent playing at our best either.

Need a few more of the expierenced heads in there like Viafara / John or Rasiak !
Cant see any reason last night why we bought Wotton I can only assume he cost nought and is playing for pennies a typical Lowe buy I guess.
Oh weel letts see what happens ?????????

An encouraging pre-season so far, getting the buzz again and optimistic for a steady season, looking forward to seeing some of the youngsters play. A few questions though, where are the noticable absantees, Viafara, Rasiak, Lancashire and are we closer to selling John, Davis, Safri or Skacel? Any news on Andrew Davis fitness ?

Can't find the post by someone else about this to see if there was an answer, but does anyone know where Oliver Lancashire is and why he's not playing? I'm still hoping Dyer is going to sign.

Muppet. Please read the article before you submit a meaningless post. This was a very young Saints side, made up of mostly 18 year olds. Something that would be alien to someone with a biase towards "our near neighbours"!!

Thought overall we did well, a squad made up of mainly academy players. Thought after the first goal, we could be looking at a cricket score. But they settled well and started to pass and play alot better. I know people will say, it’s just Eastleigh, but their team has some seasoned old pros. Second half was mainly one-way traffic and we acquitted ourselves well.

Stop posting this incessant drivel, WUM's are supposed to create lively debate, not bore the pants off people trying to read the more intelligent posts.
This was an academy team, up against a side so nearly playing conference standard football, so a reasonable effort, I think. It's interesting to note how JP, as promised, is involving players of all ages in the pre season friendly. This should mean if any first choice regulars get injured, there is someone capable to step in their place.
As for Lancashire I don't know, I assume he is injured? I also think Dyer is on his way out too, probably an excercise in fitness.

Dyer is a disgrace, I find it sickening to see him playing for us given what he has done and especially after snubbing a new contract, he owes us, maybe he will get sent down for a few years soon and hopefully get transfered to the same jail as that animal Joey Barton and get beaten up.
Also I too am consirned that Ollie Lancashire seems to have disappeared he was hailed as the new up and coming Centre back for us.
Good to see the kids do well at least we didn't lose and came back from behind.

Im was only saying that he has stuck 2 fingers up to our club in not signing a new deal, given that he was caught bang to rights with his hand in the the till so to speak.
Given all this he should not have been allowed to play...I am suprised Mark Wotte let him!!! as he should be shunned just like Jan Poortviet has excluded him from training.
Best thing that can happen is he is sent down and an example sent to all those young kids he has let down by his disgraceful actions or he should be shown the door.

ATTENDANCE = 1376
I suppose it was too far for all you Southampton supporters to travel for this game.
Mind you last season you only managed about 76 away supporters each game so I guess its the same old faces going away again this year.
By the way are Eastleigh a Tyro league team ?
apparently they were really pleased with their kids getting a 3-3 draw against Southamptons first team.
I bet like me you cant wait for the season to start co I am just LOVINIT LOVINIT LOVINT

Two points:
Firstly to Happy Chappy - Are you really as stupid as you make yourself out to be? With your obvious lack of local football knowledge you must be a p&^%%y fan!
Please stick to posting on subjects you know something about - like fish fiddling.
Secondly - I'm not sure whether it says more about the rise of the Spitfires, or the downfall of Saints when most posters are delighted that a Saints team made up of players fighting for a first team place manage a come from behind draw at The 'Lake?
Either way I hope BOTH teams have a succesful season.

I am not sure what point I have missed:-
1) The first team squad played against Celtic on Friday. The young players weho are in contention for the first team were at St Mary's.
2) The reserves played against Eastleigh.
The only players currently in contention for the first team squad are Saga and Dyer.

Does anyone know what has happened to Olli Lancashire? I don't think he's injured but he hasn't been involved in any games so far and I thought he was going to be one player pushing for a first team place. Although saying that with Killer hopefully back him and Davies will be a great partnership for Saints. We do need a right back though as L James has no pace and got caught very easily. Get Baird back..job done!

I have been wondering whether falling down park will stay up long enough to allow for there new stadium to be designed and then finally built, could this mean (HORROR)that they may share our ground, Rupert is always looking to raise cash after all.

The only thing that worried me was the "conceded a late equaliser".
Some things will never change!

To get promoted from the championship you need a half decent defence & bags of goals, just look how many goals we scored when we finished 6th. You really need two strikers who are capable of hitting 20.

Great to see you there Billy 2 Baps. I agree totally with your comments. Bearing in mind our youths predominantly were playing against a well established side, we did well to come back from being 2-0 down to drawing 3-3. :-)

ATTENDANCE = 1376 I suppose it was too far for all you Southampton supporters to travel for this game.
Wot about Swindon then HAPPY CHAPPY?!?!?!?!? 1-1 and they scored 1st, and Pompey only equalisied through a penalty?!?!? Our 3 goals were from free play!! Just thought I'd educate you.

Everyone is talking about how young the Saint's side were but no-one has realised that Eastleigh's equaliser was scored by a 17 year old. OK so Eastleigh has more players with more experience but Chris Mason was playing against lads his own age ...... definitely a name to look out for in the future!!

Oh no, were all doomed! Saints are going to loose every game next season and end up in administration! Lowe will dissapere into a galaxy far, far away and Brian Blessed will take over as chairman.
