INVESTIGATIONS were
continuing today after a
mum died having fallen
100ft from a Hampshire
tower block, three years
after her teenage daughter
was found hanged.
Tracey Pancaldi died after plunging
from the tenth floor of flats
overlooking Southampton Water.
Witnesses reported seeing three
people struggling to haul her back
to safety as she was shouting Let
me go' seconds before they lost
their grip.
Others told how she had lost her
footing on the balcony of the property
and had slipped.
Friends said the mum, who had
two sons called Daniel and
Macaulay and three daughters
called Shanice, Sherelle and
Millie, who is aged just one, had
never got over the trauma of her
eldest daughter's death.
It was in 2005 when 18-year-old
Jade, an aspiring model and FHM
High Street Honey, was found
hanging from a tree in a copse near
her home in Bitterne following a
minor argument with her mum.
Southampton coroner Keith
Wiseman recorded an open verdict,
saying it was impossible to
know what was going through her
mind in the moments leading up to
her death.
Mrs Pancaldi, who was in her 40s
and lived in Bitterne, was adamant
her daughter had no intention of
committing suicide. She said: "I
am positive Jade would not have
intended to do this. I know she
wouldn't have left her family devastated
like this."
Afterwards Mrs Pancaldi spoke
to the Daily Echo telling how she
was trying to come to terms with
the death of the teenager who she
described as her best friend. She
said: "We were like sisters, we
were together all the time. She was
permanently at my side, always
where I was. I don't know how I'm
going to live day by day without
her being by my side."
Police were called to Havre
Towers in International Way,
Weston, at about 6am on Saturday
following reports a woman had
fallen.
One distraught pensioner
choked back tears as she recalled
Mrs Pancaldi's last moments.
Wiping away tears, the woman
described how she had stepped on
to her balcony at Havre Towers for
an early morning cigarette when
she suddenly saw something flying
past her.
"I heard a crash, I looked down
and realised it was a woman. I saw
her lying on the concrete. It was
absolutely shocking."
She told how a man living in the
adjacent Hampton Towers block
had also seen the tragedy. He
shouted She's gone' and called the
emergency services.
A couple said they were in bed in
Havre Towers when they heard
what sounded like a heated argument
coming from the flat below.
"It then went quiet but later a
neighbour came round to say a
woman had gone over a balcony,"
said the man. "We went out and
saw a body on the ground."
Detectives in Bitterne are leading
the investigation into Mrs
Pancaldi's death. They confirmed
she had been pronounced dead at
the scene. A post-mortem is likely
to take place before an inquest is
opened.
Anyone with information is
being urged to contact Det Sgt
Chris Yates at Bitterne police station
on 0845 045 4545.

I think we all need to be thankful that we where not in a position of losing a child and i think that we should all keep our judgements to ourselves, there are 5 children reading these comments about their mother and i think its terrible that in their time of sorrow people cant take a step back and think. I new this woman and after losing her daughter i asked her how she got through the days and she told me its because iv got to live for my other kids, she new how important it was for them to have her. My heart goes out to all of you losing your sister now losing your mother, she loved you all so much and we all know that this was just an accident. Take care xx

This woman has children whose lives will be further scarred by their Mother taking her own life to add to the trauma of losing their eldest sibling by suicide. Very sad for the Children left behind, and yes, could be viewed as extremely selfish.

My thoughts go out to all the family left behind but I can't help feeling that she was selfish enough to take her own life. I appreciate that she lost her daughter but she has left behind 5 other children who now all have to grow up without their mother. And as for calling it an accident, get real, suicide is not an accident.

Tracey wasn't selfish just reckless- meaning with out thought of danger: marked by lack of thought about danger and other possible undesirable consequences. Think people need to grow up a bit and stop passing judgement, is very sad that you all have nothing better to do, and are not thinking about the people really suffering at the moment like her CHILDREN .

This mother was obviously seriously depressed to the point that she wanted to take her own life. This is an illness which makes rational thought (i.e. that it is a selfish act to take ones own life) diffucult, if not impossible. Its very sad all round. My heart goes out to her family.

I saw this happen from my tower block, but i didnt know her. It looked to me as if people were trying to hold her back up and she was trying to get back up. I phoned the police and they said they were on their way. I didnt watch her fall, just saw her on the pavement after. It was one of the most traumatic things i have ever seen and I just pray she is reunited with her daughter now. My condolences go out to all her family. R.I.P

I have not lost a child but I have seen the effect it has had on members of my family who have. The hurt and pain that you go through is indescribable, it's a constant never-ending pain that does not go away but you learn to live with it. The pain that this lady and her family went through every day must have been sheer torture and I would not wish it on my worst enemy.
Her alleged suicide may have been a tragic call for help that went so, so wrong but we must not forget the children left behind. They are going to go through life maybe having to explain what happened to their mother and sister, can you imagine how hard that is going to be for them?? Please, stop with the negative "She selfish" etc, think of the others left behind. My heart goes out to you and your family. May you find peace and comfort in each other.

Tracey i miss you terribly you were my best mate and a big part in my everyday life.
You were the life and soul of the big cheese and always made everyone laugh and always done what you could for everyone including me.
I love you so much and cant believe you've gone.

Unless you have been in the situation that Tracy has been in it should not bee judged as selfish instead 'There but for the grace of God go I' is what you should be thinking. Some years ago I was in a slightly different situation and I was so deeply sad and depressed I thought my family would be better off with out my constant presence of being that way so attempted suicide 3 times but every time I was found and I was always so angry, but in time thankfully I got well and I am very happy now but things could have been so different for my family. My heart and thoughts goes out to Tracys family and I will say a prayer for them all.

Like most people I'm deeply saddened by what has happened. If her children and family read this I'm reaaly sorry you're having to suffer, I'm sure tracy wouldn't have wanted to leave you but just wanted the pain/grief to stop.

I was so very shocked to learn about Tracey. Only spoke to her about a week ago! I feel very sad for her family she left behind but also understand that when you are not strong and life is tough, irrational thoughts are uppermost in your mind. Sometimes you feel the world would be a better place without you and cannot go on.

You mean the emergency services that seemed to take ages in dealing with the situation? A lot of people went throught the trauma of seeing everything, from the tower blocks. At least 15 minutes after it had happened we could still see everything.

I can imagine what Tracey's familey is going through and imagine totally how tracey was feeling after the death of Jade. My uncle was hanging in his flat this year,it must of been so hard 4 tracey to loose her daughter. RIP Tracey, my deepest sympathies to her family.

Tracey was clearly a much loved lady, judging by the majority of the comments on this site (and that's just from the people who have access to a computer!)so why is it that there are a minority who feel the need to post derogatory opinions about a lady they know nothing about? I feel sorry for the family over this but this is a site to comment on the story not leave messages of condolences. She was a sad lady to leave her family behind. A man with no wife and children with no mother. The loss of a child is hard but self distruction is not the answer. She had a yr old child who unlike the others will never even remmember her face let alone the time she has spent with her.I survided a suiside atempt it was my children that stoped me goin any further.i was in deep depression at the time. I`m so glad that i didn`t die i`m goin to be a granmother and i`m so happy that my son an his wife have me to be there 4 them at this wonderfull time. I understand how she many of felt but i`m sad for the family for the lost of 2 well loved ppl. no one ecept her no`s what the true story is and now she has taken that to her grave.everyone can bad mouth a person but it`s hard for someone who has never been then to understand it.

i knew tracey and jade and the kids. they were like family to me and not a second goes by which i do not miss Jade and Tracey. there is not one part of my childhood which i can think of without them in it. we would do everything together. Jade was a beautiful girl and like a big sister to me. Loosing her 3 years ago was very hard on me and obviously the family. But i know Tracey took it the hardest, she was the closest to her. i miss the way tracey use to make me giggle at anything and always be a up for a laugh.I will truely miss Tracey and Jade forever and i will always be thinking about them. Been there with a family member and pulled them through their problems with love and care, which seems to be missing in the formentioned for this to happen...

Friends and family surely for not noticing the depression setting in.

i agree with that, someone must have noticed something was seriously wrong. for two members of the same family to take their own lives and leave others behind i can only conclude that there must be mental health issues at play.

I personally didn't know Tracey but know a lot of people that are feeling this loss.
The comments are not needed sum people should keep thoughts to themselves especially at such a hard time. Comment if you must in private not in public - just take 2 minutes to think of those hurting that have to read them.

tracey was a great mum to all her kids she was always up for a laugh and was always happy even though she was greiving inside i hope that tracey and jade can be together now and that the kids can pull through when a love one has gone will always have a place in my heart for traceyand the kids ****

No1 can pass comment nor judegement unless they have been through the same thing, and even then ppl act in different ways, my heart goes out to her family and friends and trecey , rest in peace, you are now reunited with your Jade.
