Store joins Geoff in backing appeal

A Southampton business has teamed up with inspirational yachtsman Geoff Holt to ensure that a charity event goes with a splash.

After staff at John Lewis in the city collected £10,000 for the local charity Rose Road Association, the company decided to sponsor a fundraising reception at the Southampton Boat Show on September 16.

Geoff, 42, pictured above, of Shedfield, Southampton, will be attending and talking about his experience after deciding to become a patron of the charity's Change My Life appeal.

Geoff's endurance won many Hampshire hearts when he travelled 1,445 miles in a fragile 15ft dinghy, securing a place in the history books as the first disabled sailor to go around Great Britain single-handed.

Geoff was paralysed from the chest down at just 18 years old after a swimming accident.

Emma Deabill, fundraising officer at the disabled children's charity, said: "We are delighted that John Lewis and Geoff are supporting our reception. It should be an enjoyable evening among friends. We have had wonderful support from the business community so far for the appeal. This is the perfect way to celebrate our achievements and look to the future."
