PASSENGERS struck a blow for people power when they got a vital bus link back on the road.

The new service linking Bitterne, Weston and Thornhill was launched after requests came flooding in from residents to bus operator Bluestar and to Southampton City Council.

The route of the new Bluestar 15, which was introduced on Monday, was withdrawn in February. The area was further hit when First service 6 was withdrawn on Sunday.

Trixie Neilson, chairwoman of the Thornhill Community Association, and Rachel Smith, project officer of community group Motiv8 Thornhill, joined residents in their appeal for this new bus service.

Ms Neilson said: "After the loss of those services, residents have been cut off and inconvenienced.

"The new Bluestar 15 service will be greatly appreciated and we hope that more improvements to the services can be introduced in the future."

How long before First listens to its customers and restores the number 6? Many people are suffering because they can not get to the doctors or the hospital appointments. The removal of the number 6 was discrimination. What about removing the city loop to the RSH hospital ? Why are there so many buses riding in tandem to Shirley High Street? Why is there a two hour wait for the number 14 bus in the afternoons?

Sue,

As always with buses - use them or lose them.

I hope the people on the 15 route actually use the buses.

As for Shirley - those buses are well used - I use them myself!

The reason why the 6/6A was scrapped was because it went from Netley to Totton totally bypassing the city centre. This means that people could actually go from Bitterne to Shirley without having to change busses.

So Alex Hornby has yet another photo opportunity!

As Mr Hornby will obviously be reading these messages can I ask him a question please.

It seems he has told Blue Star drivers that if they have to stop to use the toilet in a 4.5 hour driving duty then they have a medical condition or are in the wrong job.

Is Mr Hornby a Doctor now? Whats happened to health and safety? How come the Government states that car drivers should take a break every two hours but bus drivers are not even allowed to stop for the toilet?

I have written to Hornby, Go-Ahead and VOSA but received no reply from any of them.

Money money money thats all it is to him. Drivers health comes a very poor second to him as long as they have a tie on everything is fine.

What are they talking about the six for, that doesnt even cover that area.I have been affected by the six being stopped,it now takes me 2 buses and 2 hours just to get from redbridge to portswood. It has made it very difficult to get to and from work. The bus was always busy and was used by the kids for schools and for nurses/medical staff for the hospital.PLEASE BRING BACK THE SIX!!

Here Here!!!! I use to use the 6 on a daily basis. I now walk to and from work everyday It takes me an hour each way. I refuse to pay more and put even more time on my journey to work. I should not have to get a number of buses. First buses think of money NOT THE CUSTOMERS. whats that saying - "the customer is always right???" Yeah my backside we are!

First buses think of money NOT THE CUSTOMERS

See: all other companies. Nobody's in business "for the customer". When a company appears to be thinking of the customer, it's because there's money in it, and they can see that. Always applies. Always

whats that saying - "the customer is always right?

This isn't the 1950s you know. The customer is far from always right, and we all know it

It's certainly USE the BUSES or loose them.

Running costs are soaring NOT only with fuel costs, but YOBS ripping seats, burning seats, smashing windows.

Buses at best do between 5-10 miles per gallon..... So you don't have to have a degree in maths to work out that, any bus route CARRYING FREE OAP'S isn't worth a cent to anyone.

The ones shouting the loudest,,,, OAP'S.... are the reason two fold bus services are poorer than in the 60's and 70's.....

They voted in the 70's to sell off the public transport, as they wanted to save money on their tax bills.... Now they want and GET free travel at the current taxpayers cost..

Thats having your cake and eating it..... ! ! ! ! !

Isn't it unfortunate that all the people who really know how to run things, are too busy cutting hair and driving buses to actually do so

I agree with the comment that buses have to be used or we risk losing the service.
