New move in Georgina murder inquiry

DETECTIVES investigating the brutal murder of a Hampshire grandmother have set up a freepost address for members of the public to send their information to.

Eight weeks after Georgina Edmonds was battered to death at her home in the village of Brambridge, near Eastleigh, police are continuing to appeal for information.

The named freepost address, FREEPOST, OPERATION COLUMBIAN, has been set up to provide another way members of the public can submit their information about the death of Mrs Edmonds.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Barton said: "We are now eight weeks into the inquiry into the brutal murder of Georgina Edmonds. Although we are very pleased with the response we have received from the public so far, we still believe that there are more people with information who have not yet come forward.

"I truly believe the person responsible for this crime has disclosed their involvement to a close friend or family member. I would ask those people to search their conscience and do the right thing before this person has the opportunity to hurt or even kill again.

"Now that we have set up a freepost address we hope this will encourage more people to come forward. The idea of the freepost address is that it enables those with information to write their information down in the privacy of their own homes and then post it to us in confidence. Not everyone has access to computers or telephones so this is another way people with information can get in contact with us.

"This remains an active investigation and we still need help from the community. We still believe that the community holds vital information, no matter how small or irrelevant you think it might be, it could be crucial to our investigation."

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact the Operation Columbian investigation team at Hulse Road on 0845 045 4545 or call ring anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively information can be sent to FREEPOST, OPERATION COLUMBIAN or emailed to operation.columbian@hampshire.pnn.police.uk.

I recall reading in a previous article that a detective had said "We are confident we will catch this killer". I wish I had similar confidence in the police. First bluetooth and now freepost, it would appear that they are starting to clutch at straws.

I sincerely hope they catch this killer but, speaking as a local resident, there is a lot of petty crime in our area that the police seem too busy to deal with. We have to question use of resources - how much less local policing will happen due to the cost of this investigation?

In these days of limited resources, can we afford to throw so much money into one investigation that appears to have stalled?

That has lit the blue touchpaper - I will now stand back and watch the fireworks.... Although the discussion is serious!
