Make your gifts stand out with home-made wrapping paper
A ROLL of gift-wrap typically costs anything from £1 upwards but there's a way to make your presents stand out from the crowd without spending anything.
With every wedding, birthday, Christmas and family occasion the cost of buying new wrapping paper can soon add up.
So save the pennies and make your own instead!
It's amazing how far a few colourful magazine pictures, old posters and colourful paper bags can go with a pair of scissors and a bit of imagination.
You could dress your gift up with spare bits of ribbon or a few beads on a piece of string.
For that personal touch how about wrapping up a present in a picture of the receiver's favourite film star or band?
Newspapers often give out free wallcharts or posters that can also make excellent gift-wrap for larger gifts such as board games.
Again you can put extra thought into your presents by tailoring your choice of poster, wallchart or magazine page to the interests of the person receiving the present.
You can also reuse carefully opened wrapping paper, gift bags you've received or pretty shop paper bags that can be decorated with scraps of wrapping paper or ribbon.
Making your own gift wrap can easily save you pounds and give your presents a true personal touch.
And as an added bonus your colourful creations will be a lot better for the environment. In December alone 8,000 tonnes of wrapping paper is bought each year - the equivalent of around 50,000 trees according to Friends of the Earth.
