Give boredom the bird, for free
 |
| TAKE A STROLL: Enjoy a guided walk around Manor Farm Country Park. |
TODAY we have got
lots of suggestions
about what to do and
where to go across
Hampshire that will
not cost you a penny
throughout the summer
holidays as part
of our Beat the
Crunch campaign.
The New Forest offers a
wide range of free activities
to keep your children occupied
throughout the holidays.
Why not try the "Aren't
birds brilliant!" days at the
Reptile Centre, which has
free entry.
See live action unfold in
the nest of some of their
most secretive birds of prey
- goshawks and hobbies.
You'll catch all the action
from eggs hatching, and parents
bringing in food for
their young to the chicks
leaving the nest for their
first flights.
Friendly and knowledgeable
volunteers will be on
hand to explain what's happening,
answer any questions
and tell you more about
the lives of the birds of prey
and ground-nesting birds
that make the Forest their
home.
There is a large flat-screen
TV showing live and recorded
footage from the nest, and
another TV showing a film
about other brilliant birds
that nest in the New Forest.
This site is accessible by
wheelchair. There are toilets
and picnic tables on site.
The days are running until
August 31 from 10.30am until
4.30pm. For more information
visit thenewforest.co.uk
or contact Dan Parkinson on
01273 763627.
Or why not enjoy a guided
walk around Manor Park
Country Park? Join a countryside
ranger from 11am
tomorrow and discover the
delights of the park and its
wildlife. The walk is free
(parking charges apply) but
places must be booked in
advance. Book via farm
reception or telephone 01489
772813.
For active kids why not
make the most of a series of
free multi-games activity
sessions running throughout
the summer by Eastleigh
council called Park Sport?
Team Elite is running the
sessions that include a variety
of activities such as football,
cricket, frisbee, volleyball,
dodgeball and Olympicthemed
events. Just turn up
at the site for the sessions.
Tomorrow children aged
eight to 11 can enjoy the sessions
at Lawn Road from
10am to noon and those aged
12 to 16 can take part in a session
there from 5pm to 7pm.
A session at Cox Row in
Eastleigh is also being run
for ages eight to 11 from
10am to noon. For more
information contact eastleigh.gov.uk/parksport.
