Final drive needed to get bus on road

WE'RE not quite ready to hit the road yet.

That's the message from Southampton charity Rose Road as they step up their £25,000 bid to buy a state-of-the-art people carrier for disabled youngsters.

The charity's business development director, Neil Wilson, said: "We're almost there. Now we just need enough to buy the engine."

He and fundraising manager Gary Thomasson have managed to raise £20,000 so far towards the purchase of the specially adapted vehicle - but they are still £5,000 short of their target.

The dream is now so close to becoming a reality that Gary is making an urgent call to action for further support.

"Since we launched the Advent Appeal back at the beginning of December, we've come a long way," he said.

"Through a combination of generous donations and a number of local fund-raising drives, the team has raised enough to buy the basic vehicle but I can't emphasise enough how vital it is that we now pull out all the stops to raise the last bit of cash to get the vehicle properly fitted out and finished off."

Rose Road, based at the Bradbury Centre on Aldermoor Road, provides high quality services for young people with profound and multiple disabilities.
