STAFF at dozens of Hampshire businesses are donning their trainers and stepping in the right direction to raise thousands in a bid to find a cure for diabetes.
More than 50 team captains from leading companies had their laces tied ready to kick-start what has become one of the south coast's biggest charity events - the Walk to Cure Diabetes.
At a special lunch hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, fundraisers heard how important the charity's research is from Graham Aiken, whose daughter suffers from type 1 diabetes.
Fired up by walk chairman David Tipple, partner at Grant Thornton, the walkers were left more determined than ever to beat last year's total of £126,000.
Mr Tipple said: "Until I became more involved with the Walk to Cure Diabetes I really had no idea how seriously people's lives were touched by this devastating condition.
"The more I read about it and the more I listen to people like Graham, the more determined I am that the 2008 walk should be the most successful ever."
The event will be held on September 14, at Itchen Valley Country Park. If you want to get involved call 023 8058 6269 or visit www.jdrf.org.uk.
