Garden centre raises more than plants

GENEROUS visitors to a Hampshire garden centre have helped to raise hundreds of pounds for a charity that helps the country's servicemen who have been wounded in current conflicts.

Outdoor manager Karen Butt and café manager Margaret Smith, from Haskins Garden Centre, collected donations throughout the bank holiday weekend for the Hope for Heroes charity.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a chance for visitors to enter a raffle to take home a Mazda MX5 for a weekend courtesy of Magna Mazda in Bitterne.

Karen, whose brother Chris, 39, and partner Steve, 39, are in the Army, said: "We felt it was a worthy cause and wanted to raise as much as we can."

Margaret also has a brother serving in the Army.
