| Friends of King Alfred Buses will benefit from a grant. |
COMMUNITY groups in and around Winchester are benefiting from civic grants totalling more than £5,000.
Two groups have received money to help nurture environmental ideas.
Littleton and Harestock Parish Council has been given £250 towards the cost of spring flowers, while Wickham Community Association has received £500 to improve a hedge at the community centre.
Other groups to benefit from the grants include: Alresford Methodist Church, Cornershop, Friends of King Alfred Buses, German language group Kinderkiste, Priory Gardens Music Group, Seniors Holiday Club, Winchester Archaeological Rescue Group, Stanmore Community Plan Steering Group, and Winnall Community Plan Steering Group.

I'm not an expert but isn't that an ex Southampton Corporation Transport bus in the picture that just happens to be in Winchester, and not a King Alfred bus at all?
This must be from the "Just stick up any old picture of a bus - they'll never know" school of Echo jounalism.

Yes, Andy, you're right! The red one is a former Southampton bus but the green one trying to hide behind it is a King Alfred, and I'm sure they could have found a more suitable photo!

Sorry Hornby, you are incorrect. The green bus is a King Alfred Leyland Atlantean of which they had four, one open top. Southdown green was a very different shade of green, much lighter than KA's. Hope this clears things up.
