A WINCHESTER charity has been boosted by a donation from a local bank.

The Joe Glover Trust (tJGT) received a cheque from £6,500 from The Abbey Bank. The charity was set up in memory of Joe Glover, pictured, from Colden Common, who battled a rare form of cancer before his death in 2006.

Lynne Ball, representing Abbey, presented the cheque to Georgia Allen, twin sister of Marnie, who died of a brain tumour in 2005, aged five, and spent time in hospital with Joe.

The donation has helped tJGT to complete an IT entertainment project for the children being treated at the Piam Brown cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital.

Part of the money from the Abbey will go towards educational software, making it easier for children to maintain their studies.

Give this charity a boost. You can also help people like Joe by donating blood or platelets, which are used to teat patients with leukaemia or other cancers. There is a constant demand and at Coxford Road, Shirley, Southampton, there is a donor clinic where you can do this. Call 0845 7 711 711 for an appointment or look on www.blood.co.uk for your nearest donation session. Please help and save a life. Platelets can help up to 3 adults or even 12 children!
