Give us Back our Future is as
much a protest at the state of law
and order in Britain as it is a
wake-up call about how bad
things could get if we don't act.
"Recently I've been very conscious
of what I've read in the
papers, not just here but all over
the country, about violence,"
advertisement
music teacher Richard, of
Lydney Road, Locks Heath, told
the Daily Echo.
"Every time you pick up a
paper, we see these problems on
our streets and with youngsters.
"I've come up against it personally.
More than once we've
had to lock ourselves in our shop
because of youngsters causing
trouble outside.
"It's the kids' futures we're
concerned about, and that's the
message of the song.
"But the way things are deteriorating
in this country, some of
those kids aren't going to have a
future.
"Everybody writes letters, so I
decided to write a song instead."
Richard's songwriting partner
Sandy Noad, 50, says she might
not agree with some of the
stronger themes of the song,
including talk of bringing back
the death penalty, but feels it is
the perfect way to stir up support.
"That's the beauty of being a
songwriter, you can get your
feelings out and get your message
across no matter what the
subject," she said.
The pair, who call themselves
the Mid-Life Warriors, now hope
their song could be recorded
professionally, complete with a
chorus of children.
"I'm sure there will be a lot of
people who agree with it and
plenty who don't, but it's got to
hit home, or what's the point in
writing it?" said Richard.
Sample lyrics from Give us Back our Future by Mid-Life Warriors
"Why is it Mr Policeman
I can't rely on you?
The yobs and gobs all laugh at
me
Oh! What am I to do?
They think it's fun to make life hell
For me and all my friends.
But if I stand up for myself
On me the law descends.
Give us back our future,
You have to put things right.
Stop gangs and thugs who terrorise
Good people every night.
Clear the streets of all the trash
Sweep it all away
And get our country back on
course
A brand new start today.
Perhaps a birch needs pruning
Its branches strike such fear.
I know I shouldn't say such things,
My brain slipped out of gear.
But when I look around me
And see all hell break loose,
With guns and knives such evil
crimes
It's time to splice a noose."
Dear RichHard,
"It's time to splice a noose"
The song supports the return of hanging. How can the Echo possibly support such a song and print the lyrics here?
Just Say No - that worked didn't it.

The echo have some bored reporters these days as most of the news they have is pointless...

I'd also like to point out that Capital Punishment hasn't seemed to do much to solve societies problems in the US states which operate it. I mean Texas is certainly no re-creration of a hazy rode tinted idyll of 1950s Britain thanks to the electric chair.
It's sad that he hasn't used his skills as a music teacher to be more positive, how about running a music group to give kids a positive focus?

Whilst some may argue that executing 100% proven case criminals does not deter others - at least it makes sure that the murderer is not allowed to repeat his/her despicable act of taking another's life.
Unless it's say a fellow drug dealer/gangster so self-policing.
Repeat offending is a proven statistic amongst all convicted criminals. They will either kill a fellow prisoner or bide their time until they get released back into society.
Let's hang, shoot, inject, gas or fry the scumbags and clear the US Death Row asap.
It will save the Yanks a few million dollars in their prison costs and more importanntly save a few more innocent lives. Priceless

He's not singing about hanging murderers, he's singing about hanging youngsters causing trouble. I fail to see how executing the youth will do anything to improve the youth's future.
But rather than sit around moaning, the 66-year-old has decided to take action
Great... Sit around moaning with a keyboard in your lap. He talks of bringing the country "back on course", but is either too lazy or apathetic to really do something about it.
This is just free publicity for a deranged pensioner.

It would have been useful if some of the comments about our song, Give Us Back Our Future, were constructive. I feel so sad that's the best they can offer. No wonder this country is in such a state.

I think the lyrics to "Give us back our future."Should hit home to a great number of people young and old and is exactly what we need for a wake up call.It brings attention to what is going on today in our society.People feel intimidated and frighten to walk the streets in safety. It has to stop somewhere.I agree with Midlife warrior not many constructive comments on this thread which is a pity because it is such a good topic.PAUL B You must have used up most of your ink and energy writing your post.Very informative HA HA.

I think most of the comments so far on this topic have totally missed the point. The very fact that The Midlife Warriors have to self publicise their plight and then get ridiculed for it only strengthens their point. God for you that you are prepared to air your views in public rather than hiding behind scathing anonymous remarks.
