England Legends scored a 2-0 victory over their Scottish counterparts in the Alan Ball memorial Cup game at St Mary's.

Played in front of thousands of fans there was a tremendous atmosphere for the match, broadcast live on ITV, which saw Peter Reid's side triumph over the team managed by former Saints boss Graeme Souness.

Both England's goals came in the first half.

Steve Hodge opened the scoring on 20 minutes, turning home Graeme Le Saux's ball from the left at the near post.

The second came on 37 minutes when Paul Merson picked out Stan Collymore who burst past a defender and finished low across the keeper into the far corner.

Kevin Keegan was the guest of honour and got a rousing reception from the fans when he presented England with the trophy on the pitch after the game.

A very enjoyable evening watching classic football, one gripe, why no souvenir programme? It would have nice to read something about who I was watching, I was OK with the England players but I was struggling with some of the Scots.
