COWES WEEK 2008
ONE of the world’s largest and most famous yachting regattas has descended again on the normally calm Isle of Wight town of Cowes.
The Skandia Cowes Week, heralded as the greatest show on water challenged around 1,000 professional and amateur teams alike to tackle a series of tough race courses on the Solent.
There's plenty of open-air activities and street entertainment, including spectacular firework display, a host of live music and of course some exciting racing on the water.
More to come at Cowes Parade
COWES Parade will feature bigger and better entertainments at next year's Cowes Week regatta.
The Parade attracted more visitors than ever this year, prompting the Island's council to add yet more attractions next year.
This year it was home to the Sail 4 Gold bar and BBQ, Green's Champagne, Seafood and Oyster Bar, pictured above, a live music stage and food stalls as well as trade and information stands for local businesses and charities.
Councillor George Brown, IoW council Cabinet member for economy, planning and property said: "The Parade is a fun location from which to watch the astonishing spectacle of boats racing and soak up the famous Cowes Week atmosphere.
"There seemed to be more people using the amenities there than ever before.
"The location is right in the heart of the action and also provides a really lively atmosphere at night. It seemed to me that the Parade has become the place to see and be seen during Cowes Week.
"The Parade is of course a public space and I think it is only right that activity is provided for the public to enjoy during the week."
