Tales of adventure
A RECORD-breaking yachtsman has revealed he plans to write a book about his adventures.
Alasdair Boden, pictured left, sailed into the record books as the youngest man ever to sail single-handed round Great Britain when he arrived back in Southampton at the start of the month.
Now the Solent University student has said that he will write a book about his 2,000-mile adventure, which took two months to complete.
Alasdair's adventure saw him battle to save his boat as it started to sink 30 miles off Milford Haven in Wales. He also had to contend with gale-force winds and 30ft waves in the Irish Sea.
The 21-year-old, from Kendal in Cumbria, said: "I have had so many adventures so far that I felt I just had to write a book.
Stories to tell
"There are just too many stories to tell. I saw and experienced so much on my voyage that I just have to share it."
Alasdair set sail from Southampton at the start of May and spent the following two months sailing solo around the coast, arriving back on August 1.
But, as previously reported in the Daily Echo, his celebrations were short-lived as high mooring costs and university bills meant he was left with no choice but to put his beloved Hunter Europa yacht Selkie up for sale.
His record follows in the wake of Isle of Wight yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur, who became the youngest woman to complete the challenge in 1995 when she was 18.
As well as concentrating on writing his book, Alasdair is also putting together a campaign for the OSTAR single-handed transatlantic race in May next year.
He said: "The OSTAR is the obvious next step.
"Now I just have to secure enough sponsorship to make sure the campaign is possible."
