James Brooke to attempt a new ‘Round the Isle of Wight Speed Record’
The Honda Formula 4-Stroke Association has announced that tomorrow,
Friday 8th August, a new Round the Isle of Wight Speed Record' will be
attempted for the Honda F4SA 150hp powerboat class. At 5am James
Brooke, driver of Team Earls Court' will set off from the Cowes Esplanade for
the record breaking attempt to promote the race series and increase
participation in the sport of powerboat racing.
James, Managing Director of the Sail, Power & Watersports Show at Earls
Court will be joined by his Navigator Daniel Whapples for the record attempt.
James said," Daniel and I have been racing this season and the Cougar race
boats powered by Honda engines are a fantastic combination. We're looking
forward to the challenge and this may well lead to more record attempts in the
future."
The record attempt has never been set before in a Cougar 150hp race boat
and it will undoubtedly encourage other Honda 150hp boats to break it.
Steve Curtis, owner of Cougar Marine and Series Director of the Honda F4SA
is fully supportive of the record attempt. Steve who holds the title of eight
times Class 1 world powerboat champion is far from shy of a challenging race
and believes that this is a great idea to get more people involved in the sport
of powerboat racing.
Team Earls Court are currently sitting in 4th place in the Championship and
are becoming tough competition within the series which moves on to Liverpool
this August 16th & 17th. The 40-strong fleet will battle it out against each other
for top podium places in the final this September on the Isle of Man. An
exciting display of race powerboats will be featured at the Sail, Power & Watersports Show at Earls Court in November where visitors will learn about how to race in the 2009 series.
