Surman's an 'old head' at 21
ANDREW SURMAN
ANDREW SURMAN

Andrew Surman is gearing up for a season as an experienced head in the Saints team - at the ripe old age of 21.

Though he is still young in years himself, Surman is approaching 100 games for Saints - 98 in all, 80 starts and 18 sub appearances.

That will most definitely see him included in the experienced' category this season.

Indeed, Surman will remarkably be the man with most Saints games under his belt that starts at Cardiff next weekend.

Surman feels slightly odd that that's the case - but believes it's not about how old you are but what you have done that counts.

He said: "Yeah it's strange. Age doesn't really come into it any more, though, I don't think.

"There are players playing for their team in any league, Championship, Premiership, who are 16 or 17.

"When they get to my age now they might have played over 100 games.

"I would class myself as one of the more experienced players but that comes from the number of games played and not from age.

"It's about bringing the young players through and showing your experience and taking responsibility."

For full interview don't miss the 32-page Saints pre-season pull-out in today's Daily Echo.

I agree wwith Scrutineer, time to stop the negativity and unite as one club. Whether it is purely for their own fiscal gain or for footballing reasons I do not believe that anyone that is genuinely committed to Saints can want them to fail. Loyal supporters unite behind the club, which means everyone involved, the moaners just find something else to fill your sad lives.

Arsenal have made a move for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and are hoping Liverpool will drop their asking price for the Spaniard.
