Throughout the entire season, Saints have had a problem with keeping out the opposition.
Ahead of this weekend's game with Bristol City, Saints had conceded a massive 67 goals in the league.
Three times this season the leaky backline have let in five goals - against Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City.
A seemingly endless run of injuries to centre halves certainly hasn't helped.
Last week Nigel Pearson swooped to land two experienced central defenders and with that in mind we want to know what your preferred back four is.
The rearguard has changed almost everyweek since August.
We want your ideal back four from the squad members who are currently able to play.
To help you get started, here's a list of the current squad members who have played - or still can - in defence this season, including those who are injured an unavailable.
Claus Lundekvam (currently injured)
Simply list the right back, left back and two centre halves that you would choose from the players above. Add your selection and your reasons why to the comments below and the best ones will be featured in this weekend's copy of The Pink.
Who do you want in the Saints defence?
I will have -
RB - Micah Richards
CB - John Terry
CB - Rio Ferdinand
LB - Wayne Bridge.
That'll do nicely!

Ostlund
I don't really know a massive amount about Lucketti, but I think Thomas has been a fairly decent signing since we got him in August.
How we've missed Andrew Davies though.

Ostlund Lucketti Perry Vignal
When fit Andrew Davis should replace any of them as he is by far the most consistant player we had up to the point of his injury.

Playing Sunday football many years ago our "manager" at half time said to us and i quote "if we score more goals than them we will beat them" Wise words indeed.
At the moment i can't see where the goals are going to come from. Never mind the defence. What happened to let in three but score four attitude? Come on lads one last push.

No idea who should play. Will leave that to NP and whoever will get my full support.

This debate is pointless, just like Saints will be on Saturday. You could play 4 players from the Junior League and they would be just as good. Why have we got so many average players?

In defence I would like to see the four best barristers to get us out of this mess. We are a laughing stock in the football world at the moment, particularly down the road.
Why are you asking this question anyway? I can't see any point in it at all. Fans don't make team selections, apart from Ebbsfleet United of course. So stop all this nonsense Dan, whoever you are, and if you are currently employed by the Echo, then watch your back. I don't think you are doing the Saints cause any good at all. Will you reply? I doubt it!

Thank God you live in the US. That way I know I will never have the misfortune of bumping into someone as dull and sanctimonious as you.
FWIW, my back four would be:
Vignal, Thomas, Perry and Ostlund, although if depening on how good Lucketti is we could put him in the middle and move Thomas to right back.

LB - my dad - he has two left feet when he dances so he's be a better option then Vignal
CB - my nan - ok so she's not that quick, but she's quicker the Powell
CB - my grandad - blind in one eye, very frail, but not as injury prone as most other Saints centre backs
RB - a donkey - preferable to Jermaine Wright any day

Perhaps this was started by Nigel Pearson himself as he hasn't got a clue who to pick? As someone else said - this is totally irrelevant now, or are Saints now becoming some kind of reality show? Perhaps there can be a 'defend off' for the last position, where each candidate has 3 balls pinged over the top and we see who manages to react on time and in the appropriate manner?

Personally, for your defence,I would recommend the Royal Marines! Tall as Guardsmen, and twice as smart!
I am sure that Chris would appreciate that, because he has a sense of humour, something that you, Numpty basher appear to be lacking!

Only four years ago was as good as any:- Dodd, Lundekvam, Svensen, Bridge.
This season only Andrew Davies has proved good enough but as he is injured we have to go with the most experienced defenders and give the new ones a go. Therefore Thomas, Lucketti, Perry, Vignal.

It's just the same debate that goes on in pubs around Southampton every match day. So why exactly does this reporter have to "watch his back"? Thank God you live in the US. That way I know I will never have the misfortune of bumping into someone as dull and sanctimonious as you. I have a great sense of humour, so I am told.
Hey, this is better than emails sometimes...apart from the fact that you can't esare junk, but that's the world we live in I suppose.
Good luck against WBA, but if you don't make it, I won't use vilifying posts, or try to rub your nose in anything nasty.

You seem more like that by your comments. The point I was making is that the Echo seems to make light of our plight at the moment, that's all. By the way, you might be right with your selection, but Pearson will make the right decision I hope. Might see you down the pub one day, who knows? Don't bring your God into the argument either by the way. This is not a religious forum.
Nope, dull and sanctimonious describes you perfectly, Chris. Devoid of charisma is another description I'd use for you, too.
Well Ciaran, (what an unusual name by the way). I don't see myself as being morally superior(sanctimonio
us)towards anyone. Are you? And what on earth could you possibly know about my charisma? Do you have mystic powers?
OK, enough is enough. My passion is the beautiful game of football. Unfortunately I have got myself into this thread thing. It seems to be like a disease. Can't help myself though, just like you. Come on you Saints!!!
