Shauna is a happy rapper

An 11-year-old girl has overcome Asperger Syndrome, a mild form of autism to finish runner up in a national rapping competition.

Shauna McCallion from St Mary's in Southampton beat around 1000 other children aged between four and 12 to reach the Legoland Paula's Farmyard Beats final.

Shauna performed in front of around 50 people at the theme park in Windsor including mum Michelle, dad Martin and celebrity judge Chico.

Shauna, who starts at St Anne's Catholic School in September, said: "It was so much fun performing my own rap for the competition. I'm looking forward to getting my karaoke machine and singing with my friends."

The competition was being run by children's dairy dessert Paula's and the 13 finalists had to base their rap on the brand. Shauna was only recently diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and parents Martin and Michelle are immensely proud of their rising star.

Michelle said: "It took a lot for Shauna to do anything like that getting up in front of everyone because I know how shy she gets.

"It's a great achievement and we're so proud of her."

Shauna added: "I really enjoyed the weekend it was a bit of an adventure getting there on the train and it was good to perform in front of a lot of people."
